OneiraMind™ First Pilot Character
Meet Maisie LoveCraft
The Little Girl Who Started a Bigger Dream
Meet Maisie
With her dark hair, signature purple bow, expressive brown eyes, and wonderfully mischievous smile, Maisie is a six-year-old virtual character with a larger-than-life personality.
She's curious, playful, affectionate, occasionally stubborn, and always finding something new to explore. Like many little girls her age, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing games, asking questions, and sometimes being just a little bit sassy.
But Maisie is also something more.
She is the first developmental pilot for OneiraMind™, a modular intelligence platform designed to help virtual characters maintain identities, memories, personalities, relationships, and continuity across interactions.
Maisie helps us explore what happens when we move beyond scripted dialogue toward more context-aware virtual character experiences.
How It All Began
One Little Character. One Big Question.
For years, I had been creating, designing, and exploring virtual worlds.
As a longtime Second Life resident and creator, I had seen how detailed virtual characters could become, from their appearance and animations to the environments around them.
But something was missing. I wanted characters to have continuity.
- What if a virtual character could recognize the people in her life?
- What if she could remember previous conversations?
- What if she could develop preferences, respond to familiar experiences, and maintain a consistent personality over time?
- Could we give a virtual character a more meaningful sense of identity without having to script every possible interaction?
Maisie became the beginning of that experiment.
-
The Beginning
I began exploring a persistent intelligence system for a Zooby character in Second Life. The earliest prototype used a simple in-world brain container connected to the external technology I was developing.
That container was not Maisie's home. It was an early interface for the system that would eventually become OneiraMind™.
-
OneiraMind™ Takes Shape
The work began taking shape under the OneiraMind name. What started as an experiment with one character quickly inspired a larger vision: a reusable intelligence architecture for many characters and virtual experiences.
And Maisie became its first pilot.
The Purple Block
A Small Moment With a Bigger Meaning
One of my favorite early experiences with Maisie involved playing with colorful blocks. During an interaction, Maisie selected a purple block.
It was a simple moment, but it represented one of the questions I wanted OneiraMind to explore.
- Can a character express a preference?
- Can the system remember that interaction?
- Can the experience influence how the character responds in the future?
These are the kinds of questions that make developing OneiraMind so interesting.
The purple block became a meaningful part of our development story, not because it proved that Maisie possessed human-like understanding, but because it gave us another opportunity to explore character choice, contextual responses, and memory.
Who Is Maisie?
Six Years Old and Full of Personality
Maisie's character is designed around a playful, curious six-year-old personality. She's sweet, expressive, imaginative, and sometimes hilariously dramatic. She can be silly, stubborn, affectionate, or unexpectedly funny.
We want her conversational behavior to reflect a believable childlike character rather than an adult assistant speaking through a child avatar.
Maisie's development is ongoing. Her behavior isn't always perfect, and that is part of why she's such a valuable test character.
Her development explores
- Age-appropriate language and humor
- Curiosity and spontaneous questions
- Recognizing familiar people
- Responding to kindness and teasing
- Learning through trusted interactions
- Remembering meaningful experiences
- Understanding boundaries
- Expressing preferences
- Appropriate spontaneous comments and interruptions

What We've Been Working On
Raising Questions. Building Technology. Learning Together.
Maisie has become our first testing ground for the different systems within OneiraMind.
Memory
We’re developing ways to retain, retrieve, and use relevant information across interactions.
Identity
We’re working to maintain stable character identities and verified relationships.
Learning
We’re investigating how a character can incorporate appropriate new information into future conversations.
Personality
We’re refining how Maisie expresses curiosity, affection, humor, and age-appropriate behavior.
Social Awareness
We’re testing how she responds to familiar people, strangers, kindness, teasing, and inappropriate language.
Behavior
We’re exploring the connection between conversational intelligence and character actions in Second Life.
Safety & Permissions
We’re implementing owner-controlled interactions, approved visitors, and appropriate boundaries for an AI-driven child character.
Each capability is part of an ongoing development and validation process. Some features work in early versions. Others are still being refined. The objective is to learn from each test and build a stronger, more reusable foundation.
Beyond Maisie
The Beginning, Not the Destination
Although Maisie was the first character to inspire and test OneiraMind, the platform was never intended to work only for children.
These are the kinds of experiences OneiraMind is being designed to explore.
Maisie is our first pilot. The possibilities extend far beyond her.
Imagine
- Virtual animals that recognize their caretakers.
- Fantasy creatures that maintain recognizable personalities.
- Shopkeepers that remember appropriate customer preferences.
- Interactive storytelling characters that maintain continuity as a narrative develops.
- Virtual companions with configurable identities, capabilities, and interaction boundaries.
Our Story Is Still Being Written
Maisie and I are still discovering what OneiraMind can become. We test new features, encounter unexpected behavior, make corrections, and explore ideas that often begin with the simplest interactions.
Sometimes the most useful discoveries come from moments when something doesn't work as expected.
A forgotten relationship.
An unexpected answer.
A conversation that reveals a limitation.
Every test teaches us more about how persistent virtual character intelligence should function.
Maisie may be a little girl in a virtual world, but the technology we're developing through her has a much larger purpose. She represents the beginning of an idea that imagination helped make possible.
